KD-120 20 Qt Flat Back Horse Bucket | Heavy-Duty Mane & Tail Saver Bucket

Born in the Racehorse Industry. Built for the Horse in Front of You.

K&D began around Thoroughbreds in Texas and New Mexico—not in a boardroom. Racehorses are fast, reactive, powerful, and exceptionally good at finding weak barn equipment. Buckets cracked. Handles pulled through. Feed tubs flipped. Ken Fomby, a toolmaker by trade, began building better molds because replacing the same failures was not good enough.

That is the thinking behind the KD-120: study where a bucket fails when roughly a thousand pounds of horse gets involved, reinforce the load path, remove avoidable snag points, and prove the result under real abuse.

Read how racehorses built the K&D standard.

Heavy Does Not Mean Strong. Proof Does.

Fast answer: The KD-120 is K&D’s 20-quart Platinum Line flat-back bucket—engineered for hard daily barn use, horse-aware at the handle, and backed by a plain-English lifetime bucket-body promise. A heavier bucket is not automatically a better bucket. Weight alone tells you nothing about impact behavior, cold-weather toughness, handle pull-through resistance, or snag points.

Watch the K&D Strength & Durability tests to see the kind of abuse that matters in a barn: horse stomps and kicks, drops, crush pressure, and run-over demonstrations.

What makes a bucket better than “virtually indestructible” marketing?

  • Race-barn thinking: designed from the failure point backward after years around Thoroughbreds and working horse barns.
  • Proof you can watch: real abuse-test demonstrations, not a vague superlative.
  • A reinforced load path: a one-piece perimeter metal ring helps distribute handle loads and resist pull-through.
  • Horse-aware handle design: the patented Mane & Tail Saver encloses the crimped handle ends—no exposed crimped corners or sharp wire ends to create unnecessary snag, scratch, or hair-pull points.
  • Cold-weather toughness: thick-walled, high-impact plastic is built to resist cracking and brittleness through real barn temperature swings.
  • Ranch-tested design: developed and used at the family-owned F-Bar Ranch in Gainesville, Texas.

Built around the horse—not just the scale

A bucket can be heavy and still have weak stress points, exposed handle crimps, brittle material, or an unclear warranty. The KD-120 puts strength where the load travels and removes exposed handle-end corners where manes, tails, and curious muzzles meet the bucket. Fewer exposed snag points means a more horse-conscious design; no bucket can eliminate every risk, so inspect barn equipment regularly.

The K&D Platinum Bucket Promise

If the KD-120 bucket body cracks or splits, or the reinforced handle ring pulls through during normal feed, water, stall, trailer, or wash-rack use, K&D will repair or replace it for the original purchaser. Normal barn use includes ordinary drops, kicks, stomps, and freezing conditions. No registration is required—send proof of purchase plus clear photos.

The promise does not cover fire, mower or vehicle damage, deliberate cutting or alteration, harsh-chemical damage, loss, theft, or ordinary cosmetic scuffs and fading. Run-over footage is a strength demonstration, not permission to recreate the test around people or animals.

FAQ

Why did K&D start making horse buckets?
K&D grew out of the racehorse industry, where available buckets and barn tools repeatedly failed under hard daily use. Toolmaker Ken Fomby began building better molds to solve the problem.

Is a heavier horse bucket always stronger?
No. Material quality, wall design, reinforcement, stress distribution, cold performance, and handle construction matter more than weight by itself.

Can I see the KD-120 tested?
Yes. Watch K&D’s Strength & Durability page for horse-stomp, kick, crush, and run-over demonstrations.

Does “no exposed corners” mean no chance of injury?
No piece of barn equipment can promise zero risk. The Mane & Tail Saver encloses the crimped handle ends to remove avoidable exposed snag and scrape points.

What is the difference between KD-120 and KD-120E?
KD-120 is the 20-quart Platinum Line step-up bucket for harder daily use. KD-120E is the 18-quart Silver Line everyday option.
